Funds of these museums, in their turn contained private collections of famous Lviv patrons of art, collectors of the late 19th and the 1st third of the 20th centuries, particularly of V. Lozynsky and H. Dombchanska. Actually, especially valuable part of the exhibits from the fund group "Fabrics" comes from the pre-war funds.

In postwar period there was a process of active exhibits exchange between the museums in Lviv, Ukraine, all the Soviet Union.

In 1976 some of the fund items (religious and church clothes) was transferred to the newly created Museum of Religion and Atheism.

Since independence (since 1991) many exhibits were given to the Museum by the veterans of UGA, Ukrainian patriots who had suffered Stalin's repressions, by their relatives. In most cases, these are camp stuff and personal clothing.

Prominent among the items of fund group "       Fabric" is Ukrainian national costume, which great historical and artistic value is indisputable. The collection represents all the components of traditional Ukrainian clothing: underwear, waist, hip, breast and outerwear. Special role in the complex of Ukrainian costume was played by hats, belts, jewelry, shoes. Items like that is a part of this fund group. Especially interesting are the shirts of the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, originating from different regions of Galicia: Zolochiv, Zhydachiv, Yavoriv, Ternopil region, with peculiar to these areas ornaments and colors.

Very interesting is a collection of painted skirts (the second half of the nineteenth century), decorated with ornaments.

The collection contains military uniforms, including tail coats of Lviv police officer shooters, the first half of the nineteenth century, Uniform of cavalry lieutenant (Austria, the nineteenth century), Austrian general's uniform (the twentieth century), tunic of lieutenant cavalry regiment (Austria, the nineteenth century) and others.

Special place in museum collection belongs to theatrical costume, the collection of which was formed in 1960s.

The earliest according to time origin are theatrical costumes belonging to famous actors of “Rus Talk” Theatre in Lviv (1864).

They are of particular value for us, first of all as memorial monuments of famous artists of Ukrainian Galician stage: Mariya Zankovetska, Kateryna Rubchak, Sophia Stadnyk, Filomena Lopatynska and others. Central place of the collection belongs to the clothes and personal belongings of the famous opera singer Solomiya Krushelnytska (kerchief, piece of theatrical clothing).

Products made of gold of Buchach workshop raise special interest among art critics of the nineteenth century as it is a kind of reflection and continuation of ancient traditions of Western gold-brocading craft.

In fund group “Fabrics” a prominent place belongs to the banners (flags), the oldest of which comes from the late eighteenth century.

Church, military banners of Ukrainian political organizations are distinguished by their stylistic and iconographic features, by their ornamentation, shape and composition. They are a clear indication of military valor and outstanding historical events.

Extremely valuable exhibits of the fund group “Fabric” are the tents of Turkish type produced at Brody manufactory in the first half of the 18th century. Only one tent remained fully, the rest - in fragments (24 units). Two of them have Turkish stamps and are considered to be the fragments of trophy tents of King of Poland Jan III Sobieski, acquired at the Battle of Vienna in 1683.

An interesting group of the collection “Fabrics” is accessories for clothing. This group is represented by amazing fans from the 18th – 19th centuries, small purses and wallets made of velvet and leather, decorated with colorful beads and metal plaques, with silver and gold metallic thread, variety of necklaces, including coral with silver ducats and thalers from early twentieth century.
