Exhibition "Art silver of the XVII - early XX century"
The suggested collection of antique artistic silver on show chronologically covers the period of the 17th - early 20th century and represents the jewels of such artistic styles as Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism, Historisism and Modern. The stamps (seals) on the items indicate that they were produced in the big centers of jewelry art of Russia, Poland, Austria and Germany. The jewels presented in the museum were designed for various uses. These are mostly silverware, the items of interior decoration, ornaments and accessories for the garments, souvenirs etc. If estimated according to their artistic value the museum jewelry items are not equal to each other; they vary from the pattern issue pieces to the artistic work of famous jewelry companies. The most valuable items on display are silverware made by German craftsmen Augsburg and Nurnberg. The significant place at the exhibition is taken by the studio fine silver items associated with the history of Lviv. They include the silver seal of Lviv jewelers gild, the ceremonial chain of the President of Lviv, commemorative wreathes, precious silver presents received by famous Lviv personalities in commemoration of important events.
The number of the exhibits on view is up to 140 items. Most of them have been taken from the old museum collection that was formed at the end of the 19th century - first third of the 20th century, A certain number was purchased by the museum in the second half of the 20th century. Many antique silver items have the Lviv stamps dated the 19th century preserved as well as donation notes which certify that these pieces regardless of the place of manufacturing remained in Lviv for a long time and therefore are a valuable source of studying the history of material culture in our region.
The majority of the exhibits have been previously displayed at the stationary exhibitions of studio silver in The Royal Halls of Lviv History Museum, and some of them - at joint Polish-Ukrainian museum exhibitions devoted to different topics.
